Walkways Taking Shape in Nanganallur: Kerb Installation Expands Across More Roads

A few days ago, Nanganallur Connect reported on the kerb installation work happening across Nanganallur roads. Now, after speaking to a worker involved in the project, we have some new updates regarding its progress.

What Are Kerbs and Why Are They Important?

Kerbs (also spelled curbs) are the raised edges that separate the road from footpaths. They serve several key functions:

• Clearly marking pedestrian walkways and road boundaries.

• Preventing vehicles from encroaching onto sidewalks.

• Helping manage rainwater drainage and prevent waterlogging.

• Contributing to a more structured and organized road system.

• Enhancing the overall aesthetic and structure of the roads.

The kerb installation is not limited to a few streets—it is set to expand across multiple roads in Nanganallur. The project aims to create dedicated walkways for pedestrians, improving safety and accessibility. These kerbs also feature strategically placed openings that allow excess rainwater to drain into the underground passage, preventing waterlogging during heavy rains.

Many prominent roads of Nanganallur, including 4th Main Road, 5th Main Road, and 48th Street, are already at the verge of kerb installation work completion. Along with this, some other roads are also on the list to get kerbs and walkways.
While the worker could not provide an exact timeline, he estimated that the project might take another month to complete. However, the completion date remains uncertain, depending on various factors.
