Decades-Long Wait Nears an End
The long-awaited Velachery–St. Thomas Mount MRTS rail line is set to be completed within the next two months, according to Minister T.M. Anbarasan. Speaking at a recent event in Nanganallur, he assured that the long-pending project is finally in its final stages and will soon be operational.
Reasons for Delay
The project, initially proposed decades ago, has faced multiple delays due to various reasons, including land acquisition issues, legal hurdles, and construction challenges. Additionally, incidents like the collapse of a girder (Part of bridge) last year added to the setbacks, further pushing the completion timeline.
Benefits of the Project
Better Connectivity – The extension will serve as a crucial link, integrating MRTS, Metro, and suburban rail services at St. Thomas Mount.
Reduced Travel Time – Commuters from Velachery and nearby areas like Nanganallur, Adambakkam, Madipakkam will have a faster alternative to road travel.
Enhanced Convenience – The new rail link is expected to ease congestion and improve daily commuting for thousands of passengers.
With the project now moving towards completion, Nanganallur Connect will continue to track updates and provide the latest developments regarding its launch and operations.
