Tree Pruning and Drain Works Underway Across Nanganallur
Steps to improve safety and prepare for the monsoon season
Nanganallur Desk

Extensive civic works are currently underway across several parts of Nanganallur, with teams engaged in tree pruning and stormwater drain desilting. These activities are being taken up proactively to prepare the locality for the upcoming rainy season and to ensure public safety.
Tree pruning work is progressing in many streets, targeting branches that have grown close to electric lines and streetlights. In parallel, desilting of both open and closed drains is being carried out to ensure smooth water flow and prevent waterlogging during heavy rains.
Speaking to Nanganallur Connect, Ward 167 Secretary Mr J Natarajan explained that the tree pruning is done for three main reasons: to prevent short circuits from branches touching electric wires, to reduce the risk of trees or poles collapsing during storms, and to clear branches blocking streetlight beams so that visibility improves at night. Mr J Nataran also added "The works are underway for around two weeks now and we are speeding up the work to finish before the monsoon season's arrival. We are also cleaning the trimmed off tree branches within hours of pruning. These combined efforts are aimed at making Nanganallur safer and better equipped for the monsoon, while also improving day-to-day civic amenities for residents".
