Chennai, March 8, 2025: The Southern Railway has announced significant changes to suburban train services on Sunday, March 9, 2025, due to the commissioning of the fourth railway line between Chennai Beach and Chennai Egmore. A line block and signal block will be in effect from 5:10 AM to 4:10 PM to facilitate this development.

Service Modifications:

  • Train Cancellation: EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) trains operating between Chennai Beach and Tambaram in both directions will be partially cancelled from 5:10 AM to 4:10 PM on March 9.

  • Special Services: To mitigate inconvenience, passenger special trains will run between Tambaram and Kodambakkam at 30-minute intervals during the affected period.

  • Partial Cancellations: EMU trains operating between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu/Kancheepuram/ Tirumalpur/ Arakkonam will be partially cancelled between Chennai Beach and Tambaram from 5:10 AM to 4:10 PM.

  • Resumption of Services: Normal Sunday train services are expected to resume from 4:10 PM on the same day.

  • Commissioner's Inspection:
    The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, will conduct a statutory inspection and high-speed trial run on the newly laid fourth line between Chennai Beach and Chennai Egmore on March 9, 2025.
