Suburban Train Services to Resume at Chennai Egmore

In a welcome development for daily commuters, suburban train services at Chennai Egmore railway station have resumed ahead of schedule. According to an official press release from Southern Railway, services were restored from 12:00 AM on April 3, 2026, two days earlier than the initially planned date of April 5.

The early resumption follows the successful and expedited completion of redevelopment works at Platforms 10 and 11. The line and power block, which had been in place since February 20, 2026, to facilitate these upgrades, has now been lifted, allowing normal operations to resume sooner than expected.

With this, the temporary suburban timetable introduced during the construction period has been withdrawn. Regular train schedules, as followed prior to February 20, have now been reinstated for both weekdays and Sundays.

All EMU and MEMU services, including stoppages and operational patterns, have reverted to their pre-block arrangements in the Chennai Beach - Tambaram - Chengalpattu - Arakkonam section.

This restoration is expected to significantly ease travel for thousands of commuters who rely on these services daily. Southern Railway officials noted that the early completion of the works reflects coordinated efforts across departments, aimed at strengthening infrastructure while minimizing inconvenience to passengers.

Passengers have been advised to follow the regular timetable from April 3 onwards. The railway authorities also expressed their gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation during the period of disruption.
