The biggest trouble and talk, within our houses, on roads or any other place, among all age groups, sections of society, governments, media, social media and even the Supreme Court is dog menace – pets and strays.

Though multiple measures are being suggested and strongly implemented, reports of dog bites keep pouring in every second day. They spare none – from kids to elders.

While there is a high decibel call to tame or remove them from near human habitats, the demands to tackle their menace in a humane and scientific way is also in equal tone.

Many animal and dog lovers, despite stiff opposition, continue to nurse the strays. In one of the rare instances recently, some of them also had to face police complaints for feeding the strays in a city locality.

The event titled Stray Dog Awareness Campaign will be led by Federation members.

Mr N Chandran, Chairman, Alandur Zone 12 of Greater Chennai Corporation, along with ward Councillors of 167, 164 and 162 will also attend the campaign to ascertain the views of the participants.

Instead of being a mere interaction or discussion, the suggestions made at the campaign will carry weight as the people’s representative, who participate in the event, will convey it to the corporation for necessary follow-up action.

So, with a view to tackle the issue in an effective way by striking a balance between both the groups, the Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations has decided to organise an event to address the concerns over stray dogs from 6.30 am on Sept 14 (Sunday) at Panachiamman Temple, 4th Main Road, Nanganallur.
