Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite Celebrates Women’s Day by Honouring Women Sanitation Workers

Marking the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite, under Rotary District 3234, organized a meaningful community service project at the Skating Ground, Nanganallur, to recognize and appreciate the dedicated service of women sanitation workers.

As part of the initiative, footwear was distributed to 109 women sanitation workers of the Greater Chennai Corporation, acknowledging their tireless efforts in maintaining public hygiene and ensuring a cleaner and healthier city. The initiative aimed at supporting these frontline workers by providing them with comfortable and protective footwear to assist them in their daily duties.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Mr. N. Chandran, Chairman – Zone 12, Greater Chennai Corporation, and Mr Natarajan, Secretary – Ward 167, who appreciated the Rotary Club for this thoughtful initiative and for recognizing the invaluable contribution of sanitation workers to the community.

Speaking on the occasion, Rotary leaders stated that the project was a small gesture of gratitude towards the women sanitation workers who work tirelessly, often in challenging conditions, to keep the city clean. The initiative reflects Rotary’s continued commitment to community service, dignity of labour, and women’s empowerment.

President thanked all members and special appreciation was extended to Rtn. Sowrirajan, Chairman – Community Service Development, for his dedicated efforts in planning and executing the project successfully.

The project was originally proposed by Rtn. Kannan, Charter President, whose vision led to the implementation of this impactful initiative. The club also acknowledged the significant contribution of Rtn. Past President Sivakumar, Chairman – Public Image, whose efforts in coordination and visibility played a vital role in the success of the event. The president also appreciated and thanked all donors from the club who contributed for this great project..

The project was carried out under the leadership of Rtn. VS Gopalakrishnan (President) and Rtn. Meena Sathish (Secretary), along with active participation from club members, Anns and Annettes of the Rotary Club of Nanganallur Elite.

The event served as a tribute to the dedication and resilience of women sanitation workers and reaffirmed Rotary’s mission of creating meaningful impact in the community through service-oriented initiatives.
