Ongoing Kerb Installation aims to Improve Road Safety in Nanganallur

Nanganallur: Work has begun on the installation of kerbs along select main roads in Nanganallur. While the project is currently limited to a few stretches, it marks a step towards improving road structure and pedestrian safety in the area.

What Are Kerbs and Why Are They Important?

Kerbs (also spelled curbs) are the raised edges that separate the road from footpaths. They serve several key functions:

• Clearly marking pedestrian walkways and road boundaries.

• Preventing vehicles from encroaching onto sidewalks.

• Helping manage rainwater drainage and prevent waterlogging.

• Contributing to a more structured and organized road system.

• Enhancing the overall aesthetic and structure of the roads.

Where Is The Work Happening?

Currently, kerb installation is taking place on select main roads, including 5th main road, 6th main road, 4th main road, 48th street and many other prominent roads. It remains unclear whether this initiative will be extended to other parts of Nanganallur. 'Many roads in Nanganallur will get these Kerbs and a walking footpath. There are holes at certain intervals which will pave way for excess water to join the drainage line during heavy rains.

What Do Residents Think?

Some residents see this as a much-needed improvement, while others are simply curious about the project.

"It’s good to see some road developments happening here. I hope this makes our streets much more safer for pedestrians," said a local commuter.

Another resident added, "I’m not sure if all roads need this, but if it helps with traffic discipline, then it’s a welcome change."
