Nanganallur is set to get a much-needed boost in its sports infrastructure with plans underway for a new indoor badminton court on 100 Feet Road. The proposed facility, to be developed by the Corporation, is expected to offer structured and accessible playing space for badminton players across age groups in the locality. A Bhoomi Puja recently took place to initiate the construction.

The project is estimated to cost ₹60 lakh (including GST). The initiation of the project took place in the presence of Zone 12 Chairman Mr. N. Chandran, Ward 167 Councillor Ms. Durga Devi Natarajan, Ward 167 Secretary Mr. J. Natarajan, Ward 167 AE Mr. Rajesh along with other officials. Members and office bearers of the Federation of Nanganallur Welfare Associations were also present, marking strong community participation and support for the initiative.
Welcoming the development, Mr. Ajay Adhithyan, a regular badminton player from Nanganallur, said the indoor facility would be a significant step forward for local players.
“Other than the paid private courts, there are public badminton courts in Nanganallur as well, but access is often limited due to regular groups occupying the space and this leaves us with no space to play. This has been the case for a lot of years. An indoor court like this will help create a more organised and inclusive environment for players of different age groups and skill levels,” he said.

He added that the new facility would encourage more residents, especially youngsters and working professionals, to take up the sport and eventually become more health conscious.
Once completed, the indoor court is expected to create a more organised sporting environment, protect play from weather disruptions, and contribute to promoting fitness and community engagement in the neighbourhood.
