Inner Wheel Clubs Unite for Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive
Free HPV vaccinations provided to college and school girls through a joint initiative focused on preventive healthcare.


Demonstrating strong commitment towards women’s health and preventive care, 26 clubs of Inner Wheel District 323 with Inner Wheel Club of Madras Central as the lead club in the presence of Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India President Ms Jyothi Mahipal and District Chairman of District 323 Devi Mathimaran along with Convener of this initiative PDC Nallammai Ramanathan jointly organized a Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive on Thursday, January 9, reaching young girls through two well-planned sessions held across the city. The drive commenced in the morning at Rotary Central Margaret Sidney Hospital, Nanganallur, where college-going girls were administered free HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccinations.

The initiative was particularly significant as cervical cancer vaccines, though widely recommended, are often financially out of reach for many families. By offering the vaccination free of cost, the Inner Wheel Clubs ensured that access to preventive healthcare was not limited by affordability.
The programme continued in the evening with the support of Rotary club of Cancer Research Inner Wheel Club of Madras Midtown did Cervical cancer Vaccination drive in Cancer Institute Adyar Chennai, where school-going girls received the vaccination under the supervision of medical professionals. The sessions at both locations were conducted smoothly, with volunteers and healthcare staff ensuring proper guidance, comfort, and awareness for the beneficiaries. According to the data provided, A total of around 850+ girls were vaccinated (250 in the morning session at Nanganallur and 620 in the evening session at Cancer Institute).
Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, and early vaccination plays a crucial role in reducing long-term risk. Through this initiative, the Inner Wheel Clubs not only facilitated vaccination but also reinforced the importance of early prevention and awareness among young girls and their families. The joint effort and coordination between multiple clubs highlighted the strength of collective service, making the drive impactful and far-reaching.
Adding further to the Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive, The Inner Wheel Club of Madras North along with 7 other Inner Wheel Clubs of District 323 undertook a thoughtful community service initiative to donate umbrellas to street vendors.
Each umbrella had the Inner wheel logo and name of the participating club printed and matched the Association Presidents Vision Board to Inspire for a better world .
In the presence of our AP Jyothi Mahipal, District chairman Devi Mathimaran the 9th of January the respective clubs were handed out the umbrellas at Margaret Sidney Hospital Nanganallur .
This gesture aimed to help vendors protect themselves from the harsh sun and sudden rain and offers them much-needed comfort, dignity, and relief during their daily work. Association President Jothi Mahipal, District Chairman Devi Mathimaran and the
Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Madras North personally distributed the umbrellas with warmth and compassion.
The initiative reflected the club’s commitment to service above self.

In addition to the vaccination initiative, the Inner Wheel fraternity also came together the following day for the Inter District Conference, held on January 10, 2026, at a five-star hotel in Chennai. The day-long conference, which commenced in the morning and continued until 4 PM, began with a President’s Parade, followed by a series of official sessions including interactions, discussions, and business meetings. After lunch, the programme transitioned into a celebratory segment featuring special cultural performances by the members, secretaries, and presidents, the honouring of charter members and distinguished clubs, and a lucky draw, making it a well-rounded event that blended organisational activities with fellowship and celebration.
