Veteran dramatist Kala Seva Rathna Kudanthai Mali was honoured at the “Manamum Magizhchiyum” programme held recently at Lakshmi Nagar, Nanganallur, in recognition of his long-standing service and contribution to the field of drama.

The programme, organised by Manamum Magizhchiyum, saw a good gathering of residents, well-wishers and members of the cultural community. Several speakers recalled Mali’s decades-long association with theatre and appreciated his continued enthusiasm and involvement in the performing arts even in his early 90s.

As part of the felicitation, Mali was honoured with shawls and gifts, with speakers highlighting his dedication to drama and the inspiration he continues to provide to younger artistes and theatre enthusiasts.

During the programme, participants also raised the need for a dedicated hall in Nanganallur for dramas, cultural programmes and similar community events.

Speakers expressed the hope that such a facility could be created with government support, providing a proper platform for theatre and other performing arts in the locality.

Mali later delivered a brief acceptance speech, during which he recalled several incidents from his life and theatre journey, shared memories from his long association with drama, and thanked the organisers and participants for the honour.

Nanganallur Connect had earlier honoured Mali with the title “Nanganallur Natchathiram” and had also recorded an extensive interaction with him on his life and experiences.

As a token of tribute the Nanganallur Connect is planning to present a special documentary chronicling the life and journey of the veteran dramatist in the near future.

The programme concluded as a warm recognition of Mali’s invaluable and long contribution to theatre and his enduring association with the cultural life of the community.
