From Power Serves to Pure Spirit: Women’s Throwball Tournament 2025 Reaches Grand Finale in Nanganallur

Nanganallur, April 6, 2025:

Under the bright Sunday morning sun, the throwball courts of 7th Street, Lakshmi Nagar came alive as the Women’s Throwball Tournament 2025, jointly organized by Pinnacle Sports Club and LNSC, kicked off its quarterfinal rounds. And what a morning it was—filled with excitement, unexpected twists, and a celebration of true sporting spirit.

Beyond Age, Beyond Expectation

While the tournament officially welcomed players aged 25 and above, it was heartening to see women well into their 60s taking to the court with fierce energy and flawless teamwork. Their presence and performance drew admiration from everyone in the crowd. “These women didn’t just play—they inspired,” one of the spectators remarked.

A Spectator Turned Star

In one of the most surprising moments of the day, a player from the Vels Vidyashram team had to leave the match due to an injury. What followed was nothing short of incredible. A woman who had come simply as a spectator/ supporter for the Vels team—without any throwball practice or prior team role—stepped in to fill the gap. Not only did she join the team on the spot, but she also secured crucial points, turning the tide for her team in a tight match. The crowd erupted in applause as she walked off the court—a local star in her own right.

Semi-Finals & Final Showdowns This Evening

Out of the 8 teams that played this morning, 4 have earned their spots in the semi-finals, which begin at 3:00 PM today. The final match is scheduled for 5:00 PM, followed by a cultural performance by the girls of Chellammal Vidyalaya and the prize distribution ceremony at 5:30 PM.

Whether it was the older players showing no signs of slowing down or the unexpected rise of a substitute player, the tournament reminded everyone that passion has no age and sports have no limits.

We also had the privilege of capturing some heartfelt words from Mr. Azhagesan, Secretary of the Organising Comittee, T Bala Vinayagam, President of the Throwball Association of Tamil Nadu, who spoke about the growth of women's throwball in the state and praised the spirit of the players.

Friends Forever team talked about how hard they worked to earn their spot in the semi finals! Vels Vidyashram team also shared their experience—especially the story of how a spectator became a game-changer in their crucial quarterfinal match.
