Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday has announced that the nine-kilometer metro rail stretch connecting Poonamallee to Porur, featuring 10 stations, is on track for inauguration by December 2025. This section forms a crucial part of the 26.1-kilometer Corridor 4, extending from Lighthouse to the Poonamallee bypass.
The chief minister, who recently inspected the tunnel boring machine's breakthrough near Adyar Junction, emphasized the importance of timely completion. This route presents challenges, including a 300-meter stretch passing beneath the Adyar River.
Upon completion, this section will significantly enhance connectivity between the north-eastern suburbs and the IT corridor on Old Mahabalipuram Road. The Chief Minister also urged the central government to expedite the approval of metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai.
"When these projects are finished entirely, Chennai will set new benchmark in urban public transport connectivity in India!, "CM Stalin said.
