Chennai Corporation to Provide Free Sports Gear in Public Grounds

In a major boost to Chennai’s sports infrastructure, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has allocated ₹20 crore in its 2025-2026 budget to provide free sports equipment in 150 public playgrounds across the city. This initiative aims to transform these spaces into vibrant sports hubs, encouraging active participation among residents.

Under this initiative, corporation-run playgrounds will now offer essential sports gear, including cricket bats, stumps, footballs, basketballs, and badminton sets and more. By making high-quality equipment freely available, the GCC hopes to foster a culture of sports and fitness across Chennai.
